    Summary of Position
    The Low Voltage Technician installs, configures, tests, and maintains all Life Safety Systems including but not limited to Fire, Burglary, Security Cameras, Digital Video Recorders, Access Control Systems, Intercom, Network Clocks, Freezer/Cooler Probes, Audio, Security/HVAC, phones, all related cabling, and other systems as assigned. Effectively troubleshoots and repairs faulty equipment or conditions. Responsible for the maintenance and upgrading of all life safety systems' hardware and software. Responds to dispatched service calls promptly. Reports issues requiring vendor escalation or parts/materials.
     
    Supervision Received:  
    Works under the direction of the Information Technology Director and establishes methods and procedures for obtaining specific goals and objectives and receives guidance in terms of broad goals.
     
    Supervision Exercised:  
    Exercises indirect supervision of contractors, interns and other IT staff as the situation may require. This may include acting in a lead role of a project and mentoring or training others.  
     
    Essential Functions
          Performs basic point-to-point troubleshooting on Security, Burglar, Fire, Keyless Access and Intercom equipment.
          Performs regular preventative maintenance functions and building assessments to include physical inspection, written reporting, and repair of all life safety devices.
          Inspects and coordinates work performed by authorized vendors to ensure projects meet scope of work, project specifications, and guideline requirements.
          Performs call center duties to include call taking, work order creation, troubleshooting, dispatch, and reporting.
          Responsible for maintaining regular communication with supervisor and management staff through email, mobile phones, regular team meetings, direct connect device, work order system, and other communication tools.
          Conducts interdepartmental training as required on security system equipment, keyless access components, intercom systems, IP address validations, analog and digital clocks, fire/burg components, and others as required.
          Performs cable labeling, floor plan mapping, and other inventory activities for all life safety, security system devices, and others as required.
          Responds as directed to emergency and non-emergency life safety system failures, including fire/burglary system outages and alarm calls.
          Manages the work order system to input project time, daily work, and leave time requirements; enter ticket status updates.
          Meets or exceeds all required productivity goals according to Service Level Agreements, i.e. service call response times, ticket closure status updates, and all others as determined by the Director.
          Collects and maintains an accurate inventory of all in-use life safety equipment, maintain service records, upgrades, and warranty information.
          Performs continual skills updates, training, and research to stay abreast of current and emerging related-technologies and product enhancements.
          Maintains strong written and effective oral communication skills for both internal and external stakeholders, customers, and peers.
          Demonstrates attention to detail to ensure successful resolution to customer requirements in a timely and cost effective manner.
          Shift times may vary based on assignments.
          Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed.

    Education and Experience
    Education:  
        Associates degree or 2 year college coursework preferred. A combination of education, certifications, and/or experience will be considered in lieu of college coursework.
     

    Experience:  
          A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a low volt technician role or similar responsibility 
          Experience with CAT 5(e), CAT 6(e), Phone wiring
          Patch panels, and network/phone termination
          Security door panels including badge readers
          Security camera maintenance (AXIS knowledge a plus)
     
    Knowledge of:

    • General office practices and procedures.
    • Routine software and business application including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and databases.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
    • Read and comprehend department and MCSD rules, regulations, policies and standard operating procedures.
    • Well-developed troubleshooting and logical reasoning skills.
    • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.
    • Regular, predictable attendance.
    • Experience implementing systems security best practices and administration of servers
    • Proven success working in a collaborative environment on various teams.
    • Genetec security systems knowledge a plus.


    Physical Requirements:
    The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.  

    • Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 5 to 75 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
    • This type of work involves sitting, walking, and/or standing, climbing ladders, utilizing lifts, and crawling in tight spaces.
    • Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.
    • Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
    • CBI/FBI background clearance and a clean driving record.
