Job:

Laboratory Specialist

The Department of Biology seeks a full-time Laboratory Specialist. During the academic year, the Laboratory Specialist will assist with both introductory-level lecture and laboratory courses, and teach introductory biology laboratory courses. During the summer, the Laboratory Specialist will collaborate with faculty on pedagogy, research, and/or other projects.

Job Description:

1.Teach introductory biology laboratory sections each semester as needed
2. Assist with curriculum development and course management to integrate high-enrollment
introductory-level lecture courses with associated small-group sections
3. Liaise with the lecture course including:

  • Exam proctoring and scantron grading
  • Answering student logistical emails
  • Hiring and supervising TAs in collaboration with course professor
  • Attending lecture
  • Maintaining canvas site

4.  Collaborate on pedagogy, research and/or other projects under the supervision of Barnard faculty members.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, or a related field

  • Required are strong written and oral communication skills, proficiency in Word, Excel, and demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with autonomy.

  • The ideal candidate will work closely and collaboratively with a team of biology staff.

  • Prior experience in teaching, curriculum development, and management is a plus.

Salary: $66,300 - $68,000 annually

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
