DEPARTMENT:  BEHAVIORAL WELLNESS CENTER



HOURS & SHIFT REQUIREMENTS:  Full time. Office hours are 8 am – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. Salaried position. 4 days in clinic, 1 paperwork day.



GENERAL SUMMARY



The Outpatient Therapist provides quality and organized psychotherapy and social services for identified clients and families. She/he maintains accurate and up-to-date knowledge of all relevant regulations and standards regarding the provision of social services and of the implementation of treatment and discharge planning. The Clinical Therapist assures the collection and evaluation of social  and psychotherapeutic services according to departmental policy, demonstrates professional behavior, and supports the philosophy of Gibson Area Hospital.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Interviews clients and families or significant others to obtain social history and data pertaining to treatment and discharge planning.



2.    Interprets variables of social situations as these relate to client’s condition, admission and post-discharge needs; modifies treatment plan accordingly. 



3.    Meets in individual, family or group psychotherapy sessions with clients, families, or both, as requested by Medical Director, physicians, or Treatment Team, or to address issues identified in the Social History that affect treatment and discharge.



4.    Maintains appropriate client confidentiality



5.    Establishes professional relationships with clients, families, and unit and hospital staff.



6.    Functions as a member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team.



7.    Displays flexibility, cooperation, and a positive attitude in regard to work.



8.    Communicates suggestions and/or complaints through appropriate channels.



9.    Recognizes own learning needs and shows motivation to meet them.

10.    Fulfills responsibilities in a reliable and dependable manner and uses time effectively.

11.    Exhibits effective communication skills (oral, written, and listening.) 

12.    Completes assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

13.    Adheres to safety and infection control guidelines.

14.    Reports to work on time and as scheduled.

15.    Uses initiative and judgment to assure that circumstances requiring attention are referred to the appropriate team member.

16.    Adheres to Gibson Area Hospital dress codes. 

17.    Completes annual educational requirements for licensure/hospital policy requirements.

18.    Maintains acceptable attendance record, adhering to hospital policies and setting an example for staff. 

19.    Participates in Treatment Team meetings.



20.    Conducts group therapy as requested.



21.    Conducts support groups as requested.



22.    Works as a member of the Treatment Team to assure provision of appropriate social services and psychotherapeutic needs to clients. 



23.    Represents the program at educational meetings as requested by Department Manager. 



24.    Functions as a point person for clinical related issues as needed with input from all members of the staff.



25.    Works cooperatively with the Department Manager in ensuring that all relevant regulations and standards are met, including HFAP, Medicare, and state licensure requirements. 



26.    Collects and compiles data and completes reports as requested by the hospital, Medical Director, and as required by the unit’s Quality Improvement Plan.



27.    Assists in the monitoring and evaluation of psychotherapy, social services, and discharge planning as specified in the Quality Improvement Plan.



28.    Collects ongoing data results for cognitive and affective testing as requested by the Medical Director and/or physicians.



29.    Organizational, verbal, interpersonal, patient relations, analytical, grammar/spelling, reading/comprehension of written instructions, ability to follow verbal instructions, and computer skills.



30.    Listens to others and responds in positive manner.
