About the Department

Under general supervision, performs a variety of entry-level support duties related to Parks and Recreation programs, activities, and facility operations with a primary focus on front desk operations and customer service. Assists with the coordination and implementation of recreational programs, special events, and daily facility operations. This position requires customer service orientation and the ability to work effectively with the public. Work is performed during evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

Position Duties

Greet and welcomes visitors, patrons, and members in a friendly and professional manner at the front desk.
Answers telephone calls, respond to inquiries, and provide information about programs, activities, schedules, and facility policies.

Processes program registrations, facility reservations, and membership applications using recreation management software.

Accepts and processes payments including cash, checks, and credit card transactions; maintains accurate records of all transactions.

Issues facility access cards, rental equipment, and program materials to participants.

Maintains organized front desk area and ensures all informational materials are current and accessible.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

No prior experience required. Customer service experience in recreation, hospitality, retail, or related field is desirable but not required.

Experience working with the public and handling cash transactions preferred but not required.(A comparable amount of training, education, or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)


In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications listed above, an individual must be able to perform each of the essential functions established in order to perform this job successfully.

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service with a friendly, helpful, and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse populations.
  • Ability to handle cash and process financial transactions accurately.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize recreation management software and computer applications.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
