Description
The Baby U/Preschool U Lead Teacher is a part-time, non-exempt position in the RecPlex Youth Department. Under the general supervision of the Youth Services Assistant Manager, the primary responsibility is to implement age-appropriate curriculum and to provide a safe, positive, and enjoyable environment for children. Baby U / Preschool U hours run Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Some evenings and occasional weekends may be required for events/training.
We have morning and afternoon shifts available for all different age groups!
Job Duties
- Plans and implements age-appropriate curriculum with a variety of materials in the fields of art, music, literature, science, etc.
- Supervises and promotes activities designed to enhance the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child enrolled in the Baby-U/Preschool Program.
- Works with parents to promote understanding of their child's growth and development; encourages parent participation in school programs; attends parent group and Preschool functions; and conducts conferences upon request.
- Alertly and actively supervises children and provides them with undivided attention.
- Treats children with dignity and respect and learns and utilizes children’s names.
- Establishes the appearance, decor, and learning environment of the classroom and its learning centers.
- Conducts cleaning of the program areas, including but not limited to: light dusting, sanitizing toys, picking up games, organizing, etc.
- Keeps accurate and detailed records of attendance, individual learning, and accident/incident reports.
- Assists in the organization of and attends preschool special events including, but not limited to, concerts, art night, graduation, etc
- Maintains awareness of and ensures that program policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed including, but not limited to, check in and check out procedures, fire, tornado, lock down, etc
- Participates in in-service trainings, staff meetings, or other educational activities as required or assigned.
- Maintains positive working relationship with supervisors, co-workers, parents, and participants; promotes teamwork and supports overall goals of the Youth Department.
- Responds in a friendly and professional manner when working with children, co-workers, parents, patron inquiries, or complaints; consistently strives to follow through or exceed the expectations of RecPlex members and prospective customers.
- Leads by example and enforces all Village & Department policies and procedures, and Village codes and ordinances.
- Performs other duties and special assignments as directed within the scope of the Youth Department.
Requirements
Physical
- Requires frequent public interaction and the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Must be able to listen to and understand operating procedures and written directives.
- Work is performed in an indoor recreation environment which requires long periods of attentiveness, standing, sitting, pulling, pushing, reaching, carrying, cleaning, visual monitoring, verbal and written communication, hearing, and moderate lifting (15-50 lbs.)
Educational, Certifications, and Experience
- Minimum of 18 years of age with a High School diploma or its equivalent.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Meets the Wisconsin licensing requirements as a Child Care Teacher.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire.
