The City of Valdez Small Boat Harbor is hiring for temporary Harbor Office Staff Members for the 2026 summer boating season.
Under Supervision, the Harbor Office Staff Member will providing customer service and will be responsible for the selling and scheduling of Harbor services, processing payments, along with cash handling, answering phones and responds to public inquiries. Experience in boat harbors with boat handling skills is desirable.

This is a temporary, non-benefited position working up to 37.5 hours per week through the labor day holiday. This position may be required to work a non-traditional schedule to include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Physical requirements and work environment:
- Position works both inside and outside
- Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts
- Frequent walking and standing, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling or crawling
- Noise level is moderately noisy
Minimum qualifications:
- Must be a minimum of 16 years old
- Prior experience working in an office setting
Positions are open until filled, review of applications begins on April 1, 2026.
Position Duties
Knowledge, skills, and other characteristics:
- Ability to walk the boat docks, tracking vessels and reading electrical meters in all weather conditions.
- Requires clerical experience and knowledge of office functions. Requires attention to detail necessary for accurately completing forms. Requires organizational skills to handle customer accounts, billing and invoices. Requires computer familiarity to retrieve necessary customer and vessel information. Ability to use office equipment properly and safely. Requires good interpersonal skills.
- Requires the ability to recognize potentially hazardous situations and to contact appropriate persons as needed.
- Ability to work independently but also requires ability to work cooperatively with others; ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Requires willingness to perform various job-related duties, and to complete daily activities according to work schedule; ability to lift up to 25lbs and walk and stand for long periods of time
- May be required to work evenings and/or weekends
