SUMMARY
The County of Hinds is seeking a dedicated and service-oriented IT Communications Support Technician to join our Information Technology Department. This role plays a vital part in supporting county operations by ensuring the reliability and efficiency of technology systems used across departments such as public safety, public works, finance, and administration. To perform repairs, installations, maintenance, diagnoses, and services to a variety of telecommunication and workstation equipment and systems and to perform related work as assigned. Under immediate supervision and works closely with the I.T. Director or designated team members to assist in the implementation of network strategies. Provides computer users with hardware, software, network, and communications technical support. Provides support for desktop applications, LAN connections, computer hardware, and hybrid telephone systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBI

Provide technical support to county employees across multiple departments, both remotely and on-site.
Troubleshoot, resolve and repair hardware, software, and network issues in a timely manner.
Set up and maintain desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and other peripherals.
Handles various aspects of the county’s phone systems and help transition the current based Legacy analog Centrex system to IP-PBX through VoIP.
Performs maintenance of PC based network computer systems, in-house telephone systems, copiers, fax machines, TV cable, and video recording equipment (both mobile and premise-based).
The ideal candidate would have experience in installing, programming, and repairing digital, voice over IP, and hybrid telephone systems as well as extensive knowledge in computer hardware and repair.
Provides technical on-site and on-call user applications support regarding network and desktop operating systems, voice and data communications equipment, applications software, database applications, web-based applications and internet protocols.
Provides on-site and on-call technical support for network and PC hardware and cabling.
Responsible for running, pulling, terminating and splicing Cat 5e, Cat 6, coaxial and fiber optic cabling. Provides on-site supports for peripherals, such as printers, scanners, switches, routers and modems; interfaces with vendor when further assistance is necessary.
Assists system maintenance in the optimization of multi-server LAN/WAN and desktop computer infrastructure; assists with upgrades, and enhancements as needed.
Performs special projects as directed by Director.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Knowledge of the operational and system administration aspects of business desktop and networking environment including all Microsoft Windows platforms. Strong knowledge of Windows OS, Microsoft 365, computer repair and networking.
Exceptional knowledge of the installation, maintenance, and operation of desktop PC software applications and hardware and virus cleanups.
Working knowledge of Cisco routers, switches and Cisco Call Manager and other vendor technologies.
Experience with voice and data communications systems, including LAN/WAN wiring specifications, Ethernet wiring and pulling cable, TV cable maintenance, Centrex phone systems, analog and digital communications, and fiber optics.
Skilled in communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and understanding and carrying out oral and written instructions in the English language.
Good communication skills and a willingness to train and certify in multiple systems and equipment are required. Strong preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate the ability to handle complex projects and have a strong work ethic, the ability to work with and without supervision, and have good communication skills. Must have excellent communication skills and ability to work with non-technical users.
Ability to respond to calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and a flexible schedule as needed per project implementation, system administration or staffing requirements.
Applicant must be able to work one hour later once per week to perform night audit backups.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant will have extensive knowledge and/or certifications in a Windows environment and Microsoft products deployed in the last ten years and working knowledge in networking, telecommunications and computer maintenance.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college in Information Technology, Network Technology, Telecommunications or related field with three years’ work experience.
Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified Professional are desirable.
