Job Description
The Prevention Coordinator contributes to the Office of Counseling Services team by providing educational and preventative care to the High Point University community. In conjunction with clinical staff, the prevention coordinator focuses on critical issues in college mental health. Topics addressed may include suicide prevention, stress management, addiction and recovery awareness, as well as wellness related education. The Office of Counseling Services views mental health as a life skill to be integrated within holistic student development. To that end, a key part of this role will be to collaborate with cross campus partners to meet student needs effectively.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, or other related field.

  • Bachelor’s degree considered with significant relevant experience.

Experience and Training

  • Experience working with a college counseling center or student affairs department preferred.

  • Experience with data driven outreach activities and initiatives preferred

  • Collegiate Recovery or AOD experience preferred.

  • Significant experience with outreach initiatives is preferred.

  • Digital mindset required to utilize social media and other digital connection avenues.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:

  • Understanding of college mental health and typical issues faced within a developmental perspective.

  • Ability and confidence to engage in a fast-paced environment.

  • Comfort with self-guided and independent work at times.

  • Awareness of harm reduction interventions and strategies.

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, as presentations and outreach education will be a key element of this role.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to create and maintain relationships with cross campus collaborators.

  • Digital fluency in essential software programs and ability to gather and analyze data effectively.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.

  • Positive attitude and ability to be present with students in engaging activities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

  • Plans, organizes, and coordination of prevention activities to include training, workshops, and other related campus presence.

  • Works with Associate Director of Prevention and Recovery Counseling (ADPRC) to engage in programming and evaluation related to prevention efforts.

  • Supports immediate assessment of needs for crisis and intervention

  • Supports efforts related to Drug Free Schools and Campuses Regulations in conjunction with ADPRC.

  • Assists with creating and/or managing promotional content (e.g. @counselinghpu Instagram)

  • Offers consultation with cross campus partners.

  • Communicates regularly with prevention team and campus partners.

  • Coordinates programming as the main provider or in collaboration with campus partners.

  • Support, gather, or analyze data collection nation-wide and/or within the university.

  • Maintains documentation in electronic health records.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Counseling Services.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Reports to Senior Director of Counseling Services to support the mission of HPU and OCS.
