Qualifications



  • State approved medication administration certification (whererequired).

  • Complete familiarity with duties of a certified nursingassistant.

  • Highly developed observation skills aredesirable.

  • Functional literacy in English isrequired.

  • Tolerance, patience, empathy and concern aredesirable.

  • Vision must be adequate to read medication labels,etc.



 



Essential Functions




  • Administers medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with any state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.

  • Must demonstrate knowledi:1e of five rii:1hts of medication administration.

  • May take and record vital signs of residents as assigned or as may be required by certain medications.

  • Records the administration of medications and/or treatments appropriately.

  • Observes for and reports any reactions and/or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse on the appropriate shift.

  • Administers PRN medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.

  • Must be able to push/pull medication cart for extended periods.

  • Must be able to perform moderate to heavy lifting.

  • Must be able to walk or stand for extended periods of time.

  • Documents reason for and response to PRN medications in a timely manner.

  • May dispense narcotics and must account for them under the supervision of the licensed (or charge) nurse per facility policy.

  • Properly secures medication carts/medication rooms per state/federal regulations and facility policy.

  • Attends facility education in-services.



 



Other Functions




  • May make observation rounds under the supervision of the licensed nurse (or charge nurse) on the shift

  • May supervise nursing assistants/orderlies as assigned by the charge nurse

  • Follows facility safety policies and guidelines in effect (facility, state, federal)

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
