About the Department
This position is responsible for operating a van to transport clients.
This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Barrow County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace.
Position Duties
- Operates a passenger van to transport clients.
- Delivers vehicles to county shop for maintenance and repairs.
- Assists seniors in boarding and de-boarding from vehicle.
- Delivers in home meals to clients.
- Serves meals to clients at the Senior Center.
- Cleans center facilities.
- Inspects vehicle for repair and maintenance needs.
- Maintains vehicle trip and mileage logs.
- Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education in a course of study related to the occupational field;
- Two (2) years of related work experience;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
- Valid State of Georgia Driver’s License.

- Knowledge of traffic laws and the principles of the safe operation of a passenger van;
- Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures;
- Knowledge of custodial maintenance principles;
- Skill in the operation of a passenger van;
- Skill in prioritizing and organizing work;
- Skill in working with the public;
- Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations; and
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with County officials, other employees, and the general public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is typically performed in an office, a vehicle, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather.
