The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Systems Performance, the Gas Control Compliance Specialist is responsible for maintaining and assuring compliance of Gas Control activities under the Control & Monitor sub program, with a specific focus on procedures, controlled documentation, commissioning readiness, and quality system implementation.
As a member of the Canada Gas Control team, this individual acts as a collaborative subject matter expert in the field of gas control compliance, audit, and regulatory procedures.
What you’ll do
- Support implementation and assurance of the Control & Monitor sub‑program by translating requirements into practical, auditable controls for gas control operations.
- Monitor compliance trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Own and govern Gas Control operating procedures, ensuring they are current, approved, accessible, aligned with operations, and reviewed on defined cycles or following changes and lessons learned.
- Coordinate with subject matter experts to support procedure development, revisions, and validations.
- Lead the rollout, communication, and adoption of updated procedures across Gas Control.
- Manage and maintain controlled documents and records for Gas Control, including procedures, manuals, operational standards, commissioning documentation, and compliance evidence for audit and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure consistent application of document lifecycle controls, including approval, version control, and retention processes.
- Participate in commissioning and operational readiness activities from a Control & Monitor perspective, including verification of Gas Control roles, procedures, and systems prior to commissioning and review of relevant documentation.
- Support post‑commissioning validation and integration of lessons learned into procedures and training materials.
- Conduct compliance checks, self-assessments, and gap analyses for Gas Control quality requirements, and support audits, regulatory inspections, and management reviews through preparation of evidence, summaries, and responses, while tracking findings, actions, and commitments to closure
- Support Management of Change (MOC) activities by ensuring Gas Control impacts are identified, documented, and addressed, and that all procedural, documentation, and training updates are completed prior to implementation
- Support follow-up on control room incidents, near misses, and abnormal events from a quality perspective, ensuring lessons learned are captured and embedded into procedures, documentation, and commissioning practices
Minimum Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in engineering, science, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of gas pipeline operations, system constraints, and risk-based operational decision-making.
- Demonstrated ability to balance operational risk, stakeholder expectations, and value delivery.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex operational and optimization concepts for varied audiences.
- Demonstrates strong organizational acumen and builds effective partnerships across stakeholders.
- Adapts quickly to changing system conditions while maintaining focus on safety, compliance, and decision quality.
- Maintains composure and effectiveness during periods of high workload, ambiguity, or operational stress.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to pipeline compliance, audit, or regulatory policy
- Experience building governance and assurance processes (e.g., procedures, decision logs, audits, training/competency).
- Experience using data/analytics to drive decisions (dashboards, KPIs, value tracking); familiarity with tools such as Power BI and SEEQ is an asset.
- Encourages constructive challenge and diverse perspectives while driving alignment to a clear operational path forward.
- Continuously improves tools, processes, and ways of working to advance operational maturity.
