Reports To: Mental Health Coordinator
Terms: Part-time (20 hours per week), Non-Benefited Position, Daily Hours are To Be Determined
Salary Scale: Instructional Assistant Scale
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
SUMMARY
The FCPS Attendance Outreach Support position will work under the supervision of the district’s mental health coordinator and school social worker to support and improve student attendance in all buildings. They will serve as a liaison between home and school with K-12 students in order to alleviate the personal, academic, and or social difficulties that may be obstructing the educational process of the student.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Data Review and Reporting
- Reviews school and district-wide data to inform and guide school attendance improvement efforts.
- Review data collection systems to monitor student attendance improvement progress and teach staff how to use those tools.
- Monitors school and district databases to track and analyze student attendance data including attendance rate, chronic absence rate, engagement, and intervention progress monitoring.
- Collect data on the implementation of attendance improvement plans.
- Assist with the preparation of official attendance reports in accordance with district and state policies and procedures.
Outreach and Intervention
- To provide attendance support throughout the division under the direction of the mental health coordinator and school social worker.
- Supporting and providing Tier 2 and Tier 3 attendance interventions.
- Works with school staff, parents, and students to provide one-on-one or small-group support for students with challenging attendance concerns.
- Assist with student transportation as needed or required.
- Assisting with home visits for students and families.

- Ability to navigate student and family issues in a cooperative, collaborative manner with the school staff, families, and students.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to meet schedules, timelines, and deadlines.

A valid Virginia Driver's license is required. Must be able to be an approved driver by having a driver transcript reviewed as well as passing a physical and drug screen.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Individuals must be highly qualified to be considered for this position. There are three options to meet the designation of highly qualified (one of the three must be met):
- Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; OR
- Obtained an associate (or higher) degree; OR
- Meet a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing, readiness, and mathematics readiness). An example includes the ParaPro Assessment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
