Job Description

Position Summary

The Lead Thermal Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and validation of thermal management solutions for electronic systems and components. This role provides technical leadership across product development programs, ensuring reliable thermal performance, regulatory compliance, and manufacturability. The ideal candidate combines deep hands-on thermal expertise with strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities

·         Lead thermal design and analysis for electronic assemblies, subsystems, and full products, including PCBs, enclosures, power electronics, and high-density components

·         Develop and validate thermal management solutions such as heat sinks, heat pipes, vapor chambers, fans, and liquid cooling systems

·         Perform thermal modeling and simulation (CFD/FEA) to predict temperature, airflow, and reliability performance

·         Own thermal requirements definition, margin analysis, and design trade-offs across product lifecycles

·         Lead thermal verification testing, including environmental, thermal cycling, and HALT/HASS testing

·         Collaborate closely with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams to ensure integrated design outcomes

·         Review and approve thermal designs, drawings, and technical documentation

·         Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers

·         Support supplier selection and evaluation for thermal components and materials

·         Troubleshoot and resolve thermal issues during prototype, pilot, and production phases

·         Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, safety requirements, and regulatory guidelines

Required Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related discipline (Master’s degree preferred)

·         6+ years of experience in thermal engineering within electronics manufacturing or related industries

·         Strong expertise in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics

·         Extensive experience with thermal simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, Icepak, FloTHERM, COMSOL)

·         Hands-on experience with thermal testing, instrumentation, and data analysis

·         Proven ability to lead complex engineering projects and influence cross-functional teams

·         Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

·         Experience with high-power electronics, automotive, medical devices, consumer electronics, or industrial equipment

·         Familiarity with reliability engineering and product qualification processes

·         Knowledge of DFM/DFA principles and high-volume manufacturing environments

·         Experience working with global manufacturing partners and suppliers

·         Professional Engineering (PE) license a plus

Physical Requirements

 

·         Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.

·         Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

·         Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, crouch, reach, stand/sit for prolonged periods, move about production and warehouse facilities.

·         Environment is temperature controlled but otherwise typical production environment with loud noises.
