Embedded Peer Tutor (Part-time Student Employee)

Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.
Position Summary:
The ideal
candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a
desire and ability to work with a diverse population. This is a part-time, student employment
position with no benefits. An Embedded
Peer Tutor will attend the course, facilitate study groups and may meet with
students individually to provide direct instruction.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Attend all class meetings (including labs) for the course/section you are supporting;
- Plan and facilitate two one-hour study sessions per week based the availability and needs of students enrolled in the course;
- Attend Embedded Peer Tutor trainings;
- Lead individual appointments;
- Inform direct supervisors of session meeting times and locations;
- Track student attendance for study sessions;
- Assist students in developing time management, communication, and study skills to promote academic success within the course;
- Maintain consistent communication with your direct supervisors;
- Assist students in navigating College systems and understanding course expectations;
- Help students in locating and submitting assignments;
- Provide support to students through WebEx, Zoom, email, or on-campus meetings;
- Be aware of and advocate for the other resources and services provided at MassBay Community College;
- Model appropriate academic attitudes and behaviors to staff, faculty, and students;
- Complete other tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Must have completed and earned a B+ or higher in the course that you want to support;
- Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0;
- Demonstrate knowledge and competence in the subject matter of the course you support;
- Demonstrate an ability to work and communicate well with students of various academic levels and diverse backgrounds;
- Complete and submit all assignments and paperwork in a timely manner;
- Exhibit patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environment;
- Exhibit good organizational, communication, and basic computing skills.
