    Job Summary:
    The Head Band Director is responsible for leading and managing the school's band program, fostering student growth in musical performance, and promoting excellence in instrumental music education. This position involves directing concert, marching, and pep bands, collaborating with faculty and community members, and overseeing all aspects of band instruction and administration.
     

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive band program that supports student learning and artistic growth.
    • Direct and oversee marching band, concert band, jazz band, and other ensembles.
    • Plan and conduct rehearsals, performances, and competitions, ensuring high standards of musicianship.
    • Collaborate with school administration, faculty, and parents to support the overall music program.
    • Recruit and retain students for the band program, fostering enthusiasm and engagement.
    • Teach instrumental music classes and provide individual or small group instruction as needed.
    • Manage budgets, fundraising efforts, and procurement of band instruments and equipment.
    • Organize and supervise band trips, competitions, and community performances.
    • Ensure compliance with school policies and safety regulations
    • Mentor and supervise assistant band directors and other staff members.
    • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and inventory.
    • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages student participation and achievement.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field (Master's preferred).
    • Valid Ohio teaching certification in music.
    • Prior experience in band directing, preferably at the high school level, with a strong background in marching and concert band instruction.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
    • Possess the ability to motivate and inspire students.
    • Proficiency in a variety of musical styles and instruments.
    • Familiarity with music composition and editing software, drill design software, and instructional technology.

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience leading bands in competitions and festivals.
    • Knowledge of modern pedagogical methods and student engagement strategies.
    • Strong network within the music education and performance community.

     

    Work Environment & Expectations:

    • Ability to work evenings and weekends for performances, competitions, and events.
    • Ability to lift and transport musical instruments and equipment.
