Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Instructional Assistant to support our special education program at Lightfoot Elementary. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with teachers and other staff members to provide individualized assistance to students with diverse learning needs. This full-time position requires a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student growth and success.
Responsibilities
- Assist classroom teachers in implementing instructional strategies for students with special needs.
- Support students with academic tasks, behavioral management, and social skills development.
- Collaborate with teachers to adapt lesson plans and materials to meet the individual needs of students.
- Monitor and document student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as needed.
- Facilitate small group and one-on-one instruction to reinforce concepts taught in the classroom.
- Assist in the preparation and organization of classroom materials and resources.
- Help maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Build positive relationships with students, fostering trust and encouraging engagement in learning activities.
- Support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate’s degree or higher in education or willing to pass the paraprofessional praxis.
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
- Knowledge of special education practices and relevant laws is a plus.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills and the ability to use educational technology.
- CPR and First Aid certification is preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including lifting and assisting students as needed.
