Days/Hours: Not to exceed 160 hours

May 18th - July 31st, Monday - Thursday,  8:00 am-1:00 pm

Job Summary:
The Hoquiam School District is seeking a dynamic and compassionate Summer School Coordinator for grades K–5 to lead our summer learning program. This role is designed for an experienced educator who is committed to fostering meaningful relationships, engaging students, creating adaptive learning pathways, and strengthening community connections. The coordinator will oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the summer program, ensuring it aligns with our district's mission and values.

Key Responsibilities:

Meaningful Relationships:

  • Cultivate a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where students feel valued and respected.
  • Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to build strong, trusting relationships that support student success.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to summer school staff, fostering a collaborative team culture.​

Engaged Learners:

  • Design and implement engaging, hands-on learning experiences that inspire curiosity and a love of learning.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs and interests of students.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to ensure all students are challenged and supported.​

Adaptive Pathways:

  • Assess student needs and interests to tailor learning opportunities that promote growth and development.
  • Collaborate with special education staff and other professionals to provide appropriate accommodations and modifications.
  • Implement flexible scheduling and instructional models to accommodate various learning styles and paces.

Community Connections:

  • Engage with local organizations, families, and community members to enhance the summer program and provide additional resources.
  • Promote the program through various channels to ensure broad community awareness and involvement.
  • Coordinate with the Summer Food Service Program to ensure students have access to nutritious meals during the summer months

Qualifications:

  • Holds a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate
  • Demonstrated effective classroom management and instructional leadership
  • Experience working with struggling learners and diverse student populations
  • Strong collaboration, organization, and communication skills
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR certification
  • Preference given to candidates with administrative certification, enrollment in an administrative program, or previous experience coordinating summer programs
  • Must be available onsite during all summer school sessions and able to assist staff as needed, including serving as a substitute in case of absence

Working Conditions:

  • Walking or moving about in a classroom setting to provide individual instruction 
  • Sitting for an estimated one hour and thirty minutes to provide concentrated individual or small group instruction 
  • Twisting upper torso and neck constantly when observing, supervising and monitoring students
  • Capable of stooping/bending, squatting and kneeling when providing instructions to students
  • Lift and carry objects weighing 0-10 pounds constantly, 11-24 pounds occasionally and rarely 25-50 pounds.  Pushing and pulling is required when assisting students in wheelchairs weighing 20 to 200 pounds
  • May be required to physically handle students weighing 20 to 200 pounds during an emergency situation.  Can request assistance if other employees are available
  • May need to assist students in self-help skills or attend to physical needs of students
  • Must have the ability to reach, grasp and handle objects using the upper extremities
  • Must possess higher than average reading, writing and mathematical skills
  • Specialized staff should be capable of operating automobile

Salary: Per CBA


Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
