Job Description


The Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences at Radford University is a full-time, 12-month tenured position that serves as a critical support for the college leadership. The Associate Dean will teach one course each semester, not including summer, and the position comes with a stipend paid over 12-months.

Job description:
The Associate Dean collaborates with the dean to support the faculty and staff of the college to develop and deliver high quality educational opportunities consistent with the mission and goals of the college. The Associate Dean will represent the college’s goals and needs to constituencies both external and internal and promotes the overall excellence and welfare of the University.

The Associate Dean will:
- Serve as the college leader when the dean is unavailable and represent the CHBS Dean’s office at events and meetings when the dean is unable to attend.
- Collaborate with dean and college leadership team on goal setting and strategic planning for the college.
- Oversee college committees and college representation on university governance committees.
-Serve as the dean’s representative on the college curriculum and awards committees.
- Assist with college communication efforts.
- Represent the college in commencement planning.
- Support college data collection, data reporting, and assessment efforts and oversee and evaluate college involvement in university’s Quality Enhancement Plans.
- Provide support for student success, manage academic petitions, liaise with offices dedicated to student success, serve as the college’s point of support for academic integrity cases, and administer the college’s student-research-support initiatives.
- Support and oversee the process of awarding student scholarships in collaboration with the dean, departments, advancement, and the RU foundation.
- Complete other duties assigned by the dean.






Required Qualifications


Required Qualifications:
-Terminal degree within a field relevant to a program housed within the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences and qualifications for the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure.
-Previous professional administrative experience in an academic setting with a successful leadership track record.
- A demonstrated ability to successfully complete complex managerial and administrative tasks.
-Strong record of consistently successful teaching, scholarship, and service.
-The ability to be in the office each day during regular university hours.

-Qualifications for the rank of Professor.
-Experience serving as a department chair/School Director.
-Demonstrated ability to analyze and utilize data in decision-making.
-Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
-Demonstrated experience building partnerships within and beyond the university.
