Position Summary

The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking to hire highly motivated Research Assistants to work on medical research studies.  The successful applicant should have good interpersonal skills, critical thinking capabilities, and possess attention to detail. This is an excellent opportunity to gain medical experience prior to pursuing a career in clinical medicine or research.

Under direction of
Research Manager or Coordinator:

Screen for research
subjects through medical record abstraction, telephone, or in UNM Hospital
Obtain informed
consent for research from patients and families
Perform data
collection through direct patient interaction or using Cerner FirstNet
electronic medical record system
Performing
participant telephone follow-up
Handling of
biological specimens and sample isolation
Perform sample
processing including centrifugation, aliquotting and freezing
All duties to be
performed using Personal Protective Equipment as appropriate
Strict adherence to
HIPAA, FDA requirements, and Good Clinical Practices guidelines  

Minimum Qualifications

Equivalencies not found for this position

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in
Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Google Calendar
Familiarity with
data collection databases such as REDCap
Basic understanding
of UNM HSC Institutional Review Board (IRB) operations
Current CITI
biomedical or social/behavioral research investigator training certificate
Good organizational
skills, ability to multitask, and attention to detail
