Position: Temporary Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Watercraft Inspector
Location: Various Lakes throughout Pine County
Union: Non-Union
FLSA status: Seasonal, Part-time, Non-Exempt

Protect our lakes this summer as a Watercraft Inspector. Join the Pine County team to help prevent the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) across our local waters. In this seasonal, outdoor role, you will provide essential inspections and educate the community on how to keep our lakes healthy for everyone to enjoy. This is an opportunity to work outdoors, engage with the public, and make a tangible impact on Minnesota’s natural resources.
Essential Functions
- Inspection of watercrafts entering and exiting designated area lakes for aquatic invasive species (AIS) and decontamination of watercraft.
- Education of the public watercraft users about harmful AIS and the prevention of spreading AIS through watercraft transportation.
- Data collection on boater knowledge, regulation compliance and watercraft use patterns.
- Use hand rake to remove weeds from boat launch area
- Maintain overall cleanliness of boat landing, remove any visible trash, debris, etc.
- Reliability, predictable attendance and punctuality are required for this position.
- Work in adverse weather conditions in Minnesota climate
- Must be willing to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, including Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day to match peak use of public boat landings.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of County and department policies, practices and procedures; general knowledge of MN DNR Level I inspections and understanding of completing survey and uploading to DNR server through hand-held electronic notepad. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, have the ability to work independently with limited supervision, be self-directed and organized, and have willingness to work as part of a team.
Minimum Qualifications:
- H.S. Diploma or the equivalent
- Valid driver’s license
- Training for Aquatic Invasive species will be coordinated through the DNR prior to starting date.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Natural Resources Management and Aquatic Invasive Species. Creativity and experience with graphic design.

Summary
Position is from May 2026 – September 2026, Friday through Sunday, with additional time worked during holiday weekends. Flexible scheduling is offered.
