Description
Performs a variety of FNS duties according to department requirements such as preparing, dishing and serving of FNS menu items. Assists with the maintenance of the FNS facility and equipment in order to comply with federal, state, local and department requirements. Communicates promptly and works harmoniously with the Head Cook, Second Cook, FNS Staff, Students and District Staff.
Requirements
· Performs tasks involved in food preparation such as prepares breakfast items; washes fruits and vegetables; assembles salads; dishes fruits, vegetables and/or desserts; prepares sandwiches; performs pre-preparation of meats; pans pre-portioned entrees; makes mashed potatoes; cuts and slices food items for the main lunch line and alternate lines; makes sub sandwiches. May be responsible for assembling food items for satellite meals to outlying sites and for special events. Follows standardized recipes, adjusting quantities as needed to assure adequate amounts of appealing and appetizing food items are available for school meals and satellites.
· Stocks milk cooler, trays, plates bowls, silverware and condiment cart
· Sets up customer service line in a neat and attractive manner. Greets and serves customers in a prompt and courteous manner. Serves food items that are in the correct portion size and are monitored for proper temperature on customer service line. Maintains the appearance of the food items and service line throughout the meal service. Pushes items forward for accessibility, restocks hot and cold food items and keeps counters neat and clean. When assigned to the Snack Bar, handles money and makes change.
· In the dish room; presoaks silverware, rinses off trays, dishes and service ware, racks items, runs items
through the dish machine, stacks clean dishes after inspecting for cleanliness and restocks service lines
and kitchen areas with clean dishes and silverware. Monitors detergent usage and adds as needed.
Washes pots and pans, rinses and soaks in sanitizing solution, Air dries and puts away. Performs assigned cleaning and sanitizing duties to assure sanitation and safety standards are met. Washes hands frequently according to sanitary guidelines. Assists with beginning and end of school year cleaning, as instructed or assigned.
· Assists in stocking and storage of food and supplies.
· Maintains accurate and timely completion of records, as assigned, according to program requirements and department procedures (i.e. documents food usage and leftovers, documents student use of main and alternate lines by lunch periods, records food items sent to satellites in appropriate area, records food and dish machine temperatures on appropriate forms and records other pertinent information). Reports information to the Head Cook.

- Coordinates and orders supplies for the Breakfast Line. Gives food and supply orders to the Head Cook.
- Assists in training and orienting new employees and substitutes in the FNS Assistant positions.
- Responds positively to different situations and circumstances as they arise.
- Participates in department, district and educational meetings as requested or as needed.
- Works to meet the goals of the department and district with a spirit of cooperation.
- Performs other related duties within the scope of the Food Service Assistant, Pots and Pans/Dishwasher, Lunchroom Cashier and Lunchroom Supervisor positions as assigned or requested to contribute to the efficient operation of the Food and Nutrition Services Department and Willmar Public Schools.
