Job Description

Join us for the 2026–2027 school year!


 


 


Old Mill Elementary is looking for a caring, positive, energetic candidate that will assist a certified teacher in providing instruction to individuals and small groups; as well as monitor student progress.


 


Assistant will be responsible for helping the K teachers with class instruction and other duties such as working with small groups of children to reinforce lessons, providing one-on-one instruction to students and supervising students in the classroom. Applicant must be a positive, compassionate individual who is passionate about working with young children.


 


-Proficient in leading small group reading interventions.


-Organized in order to ensure proper monitoring and reporting of student progress.


-Positive attitude.


-Demonstrates strong work ethic including attendance and punctuality.


-Cooperative.

-Team player.


-Demonstrates the ability to follow the directions of the principal and instructional coach.

Position Details 


 


Hours: 6.25 hours per day (plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch)


Contract Length: 183 days per year 



  • 170 student instructional days

  • 4 holidays

  • 7 planning days

  • 2 extended days 


Contract Adjustments: Contracted days will be prorated based on the start date


Employment Status: Full-time with benefits


Employment Type: 10-month employee on the classified pay schedule


 


Qualifications & Requirements



  • Education: Must meet one of the following:


    • 48 college semester hours

    • An Associate’s Degree                   OR

    • High school diploma plus a passing score on the Paraeducator Assessment Exam.


  • Documentation: Candidates must provide proof of educational requirements to HR upon recommendation for hire.


Compensation & Experience Credit


Salary for the 2026-2027 school year will be based on Board approved salary schedule.


 


2025-2026 Pay Scale



  • Starting Pay (Step 0): $15.98/hour 

  • Experienced Pay (Step 10): $19.67/hour


We value experience! Previous experience working with students, intervention systems, and small-group instruction is strongly desired.


 


 


New hires may bring up to 10 years of comparable, full-time, verified experience.



  • The hired applicant is responsible for submitting the BCPS Verification of Experience Form to prior employers for completion and return to HR.


 Payroll Note: While this is an hourly position, the salary is distributed via a year-long contract over 10 months. You will receive 4 paychecks at the end of June.


 


Salary Formula: Hours per day × Hourly rate = Daily rate  Daily rate × Contracted days = Annual salary.  Annual salary ÷ Remaining pay periods = Gross biweekly pay
