Job Description

GL Accountant


 












RESPONSIBILITIES



As a GL Accountant, you will play a key role in financial analysis and reporting for our Belgian legal entity. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will take ownership of month-end closing activities, ensure accurate and timely reporting, and collaborate with the wider finance community and other departments to support best practices and continuous improvement.


Key responsibilities:



  • Maintain General Ledger Accounts: Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded in the general ledger.

  • Account Reconciliation: Perform regular balance sheet account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance.

  • Fixed Asset Accounting: Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register, ensure accurate capitalization, depreciation, and disposal of assets in accordance with accounting standards and company policy.

  • Monthly Closings: Prepare and execute timely financial closings, including journal entries and reconciliations.

  • Financial Reporting: Generate accurate financial statements and monthly group reporting in HFM Hyperion.

  • Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.

  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with Belgian GAAP, IFRS (limited), company policies and applicable regulations.

  • Tax reporting: Ensure accurate accounting of tax-related entries (VAT and Corporate tax). Prepare and submit periodic tax filings in compliance with local regulations.

  • Collaboration: Act as the primary point of contact for our Shared Service Centers (primarily AP).

  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy and control in financial reporting.



 


















EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE




  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.

  • 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience, including exposure to tax processes, ideally in an international environment.

  • Strong knowledge of Belgian GAAP reporting standards.

  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems; SAP experience is preferred.

  • Strong MS Office skills, particularly Excel (pivot tables, formulas).

  • Well-organized and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Detail-oriented while maintaining a broader business perspective. A proactive team player with strong communication skills.

  • Fluent in Dutch and English.
