Operations Manager
Summary/Objective
The School Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary school environment to support student learning and staff productivity. This role performs routine cleaning, light maintenance, event setup, and building security functions in accordance with district standards and safety regulations.
Essential Functions
Facility Cleaning & Sanitation
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors (including stripping, waxing, and buffing)
- Clean and disinfect restrooms, classrooms, offices, cafeterias, and common areas
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles; transport waste to designated areas
- Replenish paper goods and hygiene supplies
- Clean windows, walls, furniture, and fixtures
Building Maintenance
- Perform minor repairs (e.g., light bulb replacement, tightening hardware)
- Report maintenance issues requiring skilled trades
- Assist with preventative maintenance tasks
Safety & Compliance
- Follow OSHA and district safety standards
- Maintain proper chemical handling and storage
- Ensure building security (locking/unlocking doors, alarm procedures)
- Assist during emergency situations (weather, spills, etc.)
- Assist with service calls/inspections from vendors and agencies having jurisdiction
- Reports inspection results/issues to Operations Manager
Event Support
- Set up and break down furniture for school events and community activities
- Adjust schedules seasonally to support summer deep cleaning and special projects
Competencies
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment
- Ability to operate custodial machinery (auto scrubbers, buffers, etc.)
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, bend, stand, and walk for extended periods
- Strong work ethic and reliability
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Indoor and outdoor school environments
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and seasonal temperature variations

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Full-time, standard hours; may require occasional evenings/weekends.
Travel
Minimal, 0-5%, to required training in Ohio.
Required Education/Experience
- High School Diploma/GED
Preferred Education/Experience
- Prior custodial or facilities experience
- Experience in K-12 environment
- Floor care certification
- OSHA safety training
