Job Description

The Pain Management Center at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is seeking a full-time licensed psychologist who will have a primary faculty appointment within the Department of Anesthesiology, Division of Pain Medicine in the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Vanderbilt Pain Management is a collaborative multidisciplinary team providing cutting-edge, comprehensive care for patients with various pain conditions.

The psychologist would work in the outpatient setting with the majority of effort dedicated to providing direct psychological services to adult patients with a wide array of chronic pain conditions. The psychologist would have opportunities to contribute to the academic mission of the institution by developing and providing education to medical students, residents and fellows as well as by engaging in quality improvement initiatives and/or program development to expand psychological services offered by the pain clinic. In addition, there are opportunities to receive training and to attend and present at professional and academic conferences through a generous, yearly continuing education stipend. For example, psychologists can obtain training in and deliver evidence-based pain interventions such as Empowered Relief, Pain Reprocessing Therapy, and/or Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy.

Responsibilities include conducting psychological evaluations as part of planning for spinal cord stimulator implantation and providing individual and group intervention to adult patients with chronic pain as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team. Responsibilities also include attending faculty meetings and Grand Rounds. Knowledge and experience working with adult patients with chronic pain and comorbid medical/psychological conditions is preferred. Training and experience with evidence-based psychological interventions for chronic pain such as cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, and/or clinical hypnosis is preferred. Psychologists have the benefit of regular consultation meetings with a supportive group of health psychology colleagues within the Pain Division and PM&R/Osher Center for Integrative Health.

This position will be based in Nashville, TN and will require providing in-person and telehealth care with dedicated in-person clinic days. Salary and benefits are competitive.
