POSITION SUMMARY
Modern Government Solutions LLC (MGS) is seeking a Technical Writer (Engineering & Operations) to support Blue Water Instrumentation (BWI) efforts at the Point Mugu Sea Range. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining technical documentation, SOPs, and program artifacts that support R&D, prototyping, and test operations. Working closely with engineers, technicians, logistics personnel, and program leadership, this position translates complex technical processes into clear, structured, and repeatable documentation. The Technical Writer plays a key role in enabling consistency and scalability by capturing processes, documenting lessons learned, and ensuring operational knowledge is preserved and accessible.
RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to):
- Develop, write, and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and technical documentation supporting engineering and operations.
- Translate complex engineering, logistics, and operational processes into clear, concise, and actionable documentation.
- Document system configurations, integration procedures, and test methodologies.
- Collaborate with engineers and technicians to capture design intent, build processes, and integration workflows.
- Develop and maintain test plans, test reports, and after-action documentation.
- Ensure documentation aligns with program requirements, compliance standards, and internal processes.
- Maintain version control and organization of documentation repositories.
- Support development of briefings, reports, and customer-facing deliverables.
- Standardize formatting and structure to ensure consistency and professionalism across documentation.
- Identify gaps in processes or documentation and implement improvements.
- Support knowledge management efforts to ensure continuity and scalability of operations.
- Work in a combination of office and collaborative engineering environments.
- Regularly interact with engineers, technicians, logistics personnel, and program teams.
- Occasionally support field or test activities to capture processes and documentation.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Must possess an active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Technical Writing, Communications, Engineering, or related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in technical writing or documentation development.
- Experience developing SOPs, technical manuals, or process documentation.
- Ability to understand and document technical systems and engineering processes.
- Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and document management systems.
- Ability to work closely with technical teams and extract relevant information.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple documentation efforts simultaneously.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience supporting DoD programs, RDT&E, or test and evaluation environments.
- Familiarity with engineering documentation, system integration processes, or logistics operations.
- Experience developing documentation in fast-paced, evolving environments.
- Knowledge of configuration management and document control practices.
- Experience with knowledge management systems (e.g., SharePoint or similar).
- Prior military or defense contractor experience.
