Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a paraprofessional for the Extended School Year (ESY) program at Bertha Neal Elementary. This temporary position is designed to support students with diverse learning needs in an inclusive educational environment. The ideal candidate will assist teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and provide support to students to enhance their learning experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in the preparation and implementation of instructional materials and activities.
- Provide one-on-one support to students with special needs, ensuring they understand and engage with the curriculum.
- Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and participation in classroom activities.
- Facilitate small group instruction and assist with classroom management to create a positive learning environment.
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to adapt lessons and strategies to meet individual student needs.
- Support students during transitions between activities and throughout the school day.
- Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required to enhance skills and knowledge relevant to the role.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and adhere to all school policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in special education or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment for all students.
- Ability to follow directions and implement strategies as outlined by teachers and educational staff.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in using educational technology.
- Must pass a background check and comply with all school district policies and regulations.

Qualifications:
• Minimum associates degree or 2 years of college (equal to 60 semester hours) or
successful completion of the MTTC Basic Skills or WorkKeys or ETS Parapro
Assessment
• Preschool experience is preferred
• Meet NCLB standards for the position
• Preschool Experience Preferred
• Show evidence of good health
• Self-directed individual
• Ability and willingness to work with professional teaching staff
• Strong verbal/language and mathematics skills
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds of weight
Starting Date: June 3, 2024
Responsibilities:
• Support activities and lessons as it relates to student IEPs prepared by the lead teacher
and ancillary staff
• Toileting support for students as needed
• Collaborate with ancillary and teaching staff within the program
• Daily communication with families
• Other duties as assigned by the building principal and/or lead teacher.
