Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse, or Clinical Operations Officer, performs a number of activities to assist with patient care, including lifting and transporting patients, lifting and cleaning equipment in patient care areas; transporting specimens, maintaining records as assigned, assisting in call coverage as required by the unit.
Reports to: Nurse Coordinator, Surgery
Essential Job Functions
- Transports patients to designated areas meeting patient comfort and safety requirements.
- Assists in moving and positioning patients in the operating room under the direction of the RN or MD.
- Responds to requests for transports of beds, specimens, etc., in a timely manner.
- Transports and cleans equipment throughout the operating room.
- Handles and operates equipment properly and carefully.
- Initiates work orders if wear or malfunctions are found.
- Demonstrates knowledge of terminal cleaning high level disinfection and environmental control standards by proper method and/or use of cleaning process or agents.
- Assists in room turnovers to expedite OR utilization.
- Assists in cleaning surgical suites at the end of the daily schedule ensuring all suites are ready for next day’s use.
- Checks stock levels by substerile assignments or cart assignments and restocks assigned units according to established guidelines.
- Utilize concepts of age/developmental stages in interactions with patients and families.
- Demonstrates the spirit of the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital through words and actions and implements them into departmental processes, programs, and the working environment.
