PRIMARY TASKS & MAJOR ACTIVITIES
The Behavior Support Aide supports the instructional program by providing direct behavior management for students. This role focuses on helping students achieve behavioral goals and social competencies to improve their academic performance and classroom integration. Other duties include providing "reset" opportunities for students to facilitate emotional regulation outside the classroom. Assist in the development and implementation of behavior support plans with fidelity.Provide immediate support during student escalations to ensure teachers can maintain instructional focus. Facilitate In-School Suspension (ISS) as required. Work closely with staff and maintain open communication with staff regarding student needs.Observe, record, and chart student behavior to assist in data-driven planning. Help organize materials and documentation as directed by the assigned teacher. Provide direct academic and functional instruction to students under the guidance of the classroom teacher. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all student and parent matters. Demonstrate respect for all stakeholders and engage in continuous professional growth and mandatory district training.
EDUCATIONAL/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Must meet one of the following criteria: 60+ college credit hours, a passing score on the ParaPro or Paraprofessional Assessment, or completion of the 20-hour Substitute Certificate Course. Must hold and maintain a valid Substitute Certification and complete district-mandated training in specific seclusion and restraining techniques. Previous training or experience related to behavior management is highly beneficial. Must possess excellent organizational, oral/written communication, and time-management skills. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks (bending, stooping, reaching, and manual student assistance) is required. Reliability and the ability to maintain regular, consistent attendance is required. Willingness to understand and support the District's Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. Must successfully pass a background check and drug test that are satisfactory to the Board of Education
