The Instrumentation & Operations Technician is a highly skilled technical position that installs, maintains, repairs, calibrates, and troubleshoots electronic process control systems for equipment at all water and wastewater facilities and is responsible for the hardware and software (RTU, SCADA, & PLC) installations for new, replaced, and upgraded equipment designed to monitor, control, and oversee processes while enduring continuous connectivity and safe operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Supports, collaborates, and monitors day-to-day water and wastewater process controls.
• Operates automotive and other equipment in the repair and maintenance of water & wastewater facilities, including but not limited to water production plant, wastewater treatment plant, raw water wells, water pump stations and wastewater lift stations.
• Repairs and/or replaces software/hardware components as needed.
• Installs, programs, and troubleshoots RTUs, SCADA & PLC by reading, comprehending, and applying written instructions from manuals and other job related technical literature.
• Performs calibration of flow meters, analyzers, and other process equipment.
• Performs preventative and predictive maintenance on Distribution Control (DC) & Program Logic Control (PLC) systems.
• Performs inspections and maintenance on lift stations and water and wastewater equipment and facilities as needed.
• Participates in facility equipment start-ups & shutdowns to confirm system performance within design parameters.
• Produces written reports with pertinent control data & maintains system documentation for standard procedures.
Job Requirements
EDUCATION
High School Diploma/GED required.
Minimum of three (3) years of experience troubleshooting and maintaining electrical and mechanical plant equipment required.
Minimum of two (2) years experience in applicable Lift Station maintenance activities including general site inspection and troubleshooting and repair of pumps & motors, gear drives, actuators, and controls preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years experience in Electrical & Instrumentation components of Lift Stations and Water/Wastewater Plants including troubleshooting & repair of VFDs, PLCs, SCADA, equipment calibration, and data analysis preferred.
EXPERIENCE
3+ years.

Florida Driver's License Class A CDL with tanker endorsement required.
*Will allow a two-year timeframe from date of hire to obtain Florida CDL Class A.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position is part of New Smyrna Beach Utilities Emergency Management Team and, as such, shall be expected to perform all duties that are assigned during an emergency management operation. Any additional compensation, above the normal weekly salary shall be outlined in the Human Resources Manual or Collective Bargaining Agreement. Failure to appear to perform emergency management assignment and to work assigned shifts as scheduled by NSBU’s Emergency Incident Commander or individuals designated by the General Manager/CEO to assign such functions may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
