Job Description

Position: Drafting Technologist 13 


Division: Transportation and Construction 


Department: Construction and Design


Term: 2 Permanent Full Time positions available.

This position is a CUPE 59 position and will be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Should it not be filled in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, external candidates will be considered.

Job Summary

Under supervision of the Drafting Supervisor, this position performs moderately complex drafting.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepares construction, as-built and presentation drawings for municipal engineering projects.
  • Provides drafting design services for water and sewer and roadways related projects.
  • Provides maintenance and development services for the geographical information system.
  • Develops and maintains digital standards, file management and civic digital libraries.  Files and distributes department plans.
  • Provides technical support for hardware and software related to drafting requirements.
  • Applies mathematical calculations, drafting and engineering standards and procedures using a variety of source documents, including field survey notes, statistical records, plans and sketches, to produce drawings and support for field operations.
  • Participates in technological training, as required.
  • Responds to enquiries and provides information from plans and records to staff and the public in person, by correspondence and by telephone.
  • Provides blueprinting, plotting and large format photocopying services, as required.
  • Conducts research and customizes software applications to improve digital processes.
  • Assists with the training of other drafting staff and checks drawings to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Obtains field information for various aspects of the work.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from a two-year, post-secondary drafting technology program.
  • Two years' related drafting and design experience.
  • Certification, or eligibility for, certification as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT) with Saskatchewan Applied Science Technologists and Technicians (SASTT)
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver’s Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • Knowledge of engineering drafting terminology, practices, techniques and equipment.
  • Knowledge of construction, engineering and survey techniques and practices.
  • Knowledge of civic and departmental policies and regulations.
  • Ability to interpret maps, plans, survey notes and other relevant data.
  • Ability to understand detailed plans and specifications.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to express ideas and concepts effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of software, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Mapguide, databases, word-processors and spreadsheets.

Weekly Hours: 36.67 


Salary Range: $69,591.36 to $76,724.88 CAD per annum (2026 rates)
