The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for delivering patient care services to residents and will function within the scope of practice according to the Mississippi State Board of Nursing. The LPN assists in evaluating and modifying resident care plans. The LPN collaborates with all clinical staff and providers, communicating patient care information to residents and their families.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for delivering patient care services as part of a health care team
- Assess resident needs, plans and modifies care, and implements interventions
- Evaluates intervention outcomes in collaboration with other health care team members
- Performs and documents vital signs, basic resident care, and procedures
- Administers prescribed medications and starts intravenous fluids, observing, reporting, and documenting the effectiveness and changes in conditions
- Collects specimens and performs routine laboratory tests
- Maintains and sterilizes lab equipment, procedural instruments, and supplies
- Performs additional nursing duties as assigned
- Communicates resident healthcare needs to appropriate health care team or provider
- Assures daily accurate, concise reporting and documentation of resident condition and needs
- Shares input from the resident and family with the appropriate healthcare team members
- Promptly answers resident requests and addresses resident's needs
- Reports significant events and situations to healthcare team members
- Provides clinical supervision to Certified Nursing Assistants
- Follows safety rules in all areas of resident care and ensures a safe resident environment
Qualifications
Education:
- Vocational/Technical Diploma; Graduate of an accredited LPN program
