Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Production Engineering (PE) Paint Department is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Engineer.
The primary responsibility of this role is to lead PE Paint’s Vehicle Planning Group (VPG) activity for Digital Twin and New Model vehicle development projects. Focus will be to produce digital model of new layout proposal and new model impact layout via 2D/3D tools. New Model focus will be cost study proposals of vehicle model investigation and introduction. As lead, this role will have cross functional group team work and is responsible to ensure key criteria of Safety, Quality, Productivity and Cost.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the person in this role will support the PE Paint department's objective through:
Current model’s manufacturing process set up and issue investigations. Includes: Equipment, Process and Vehicle benchmark activities.
Cross group function for New Model cost planning
Shop forecast and capacity setting engineering studies
Frequent communication with Internal & External stakeholders as well as project leaders & management.
What you’ll be doing
Lead Digital Twin modeling and New Model cost planning and development
Execute Paint VPG group tasks per O.P./Standards and Toyota Manufacturing Principles for Paint
Go & See manufacturing line to establish shop current condition of layout, process, and equipment
Determine and evaluate Equipment / Automation / Manual process impacts
Analyze current vs. ideal conditions for new model implementation
Develop cost planning reports to external groups and reflections at major milestones
Produce new model cost planning package that incorporates
Clarify situation of vehicle project scope
Breakdown problem of strategy and study results
Set investment target via cost waterfall and schedule
Analyze details of all critical investments
Countermeasure development with cost breakdown sheets
Lead and communicate frequent project status updates and practice P-D-C-A
Creating presentations and reports to communicate project progress and KPI’s (Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Cost)
Identify and implement innovative ideas to build-in quality into new model cost planning processes.
Lead small engineering teams/stakeholders on accurate data gathering (Genchi Genbutsu) & analysis for problem resolution.
Review/confirm 2D and 3D data of layouts, body data, and equipment as part of data gather
Develop/update layout of processes and equipment to support new model, bridge, or future investigations
Share/Review issues/concerns & gain One-Voice to provide consolidated feedback to PE Planning Department
Ability to Travel within North America including Mexico, Canada, and Japan
What you bring
Bachelor degree (or higher) in Engineering or related degree or equivalent engineering experience
At least 2 years in Production Engineering Department (includes variable workforce experience) or equivalent engineering experience
At least 1 year in layout design for equipment and manufacturing process
Proficient with Microsoft products (Excel, Power-Point, Word, SharePoint, Outlook)
Beginner skill level in Catia or other 3D modeling software
Proficient skill level in Autodesk products: AutoCAD, Inventor, Navisworks, FDU
Added bonus if you have
Project management experience
At least 3 years of Automotive experience
At least 1 year in Catia for SE data analysis
At least 1 year in Equipment Installation
