Job Description

Harrison Western was founded in 1968 and has provided superior design and construction services to the geotechnical heavy civil, mining, and tunneling industries for over 50 years, as well as providing geotechnical and other unique services to civil projects. Additionally, Underground Infrastructure Technologies, LLC (UIT), a division of Harrison Western, is a full-service utility contractor specializing in trenchless technologies. UIT performs wet and dry utility installations utilizing both trenchless technologies and open cut excavation to complete projects, large or small in multiple geographic markets. Headquartered in Lakewood, Colorado, we have completed over $2 billion in mining and construction development projects that range geographically from the Arctic to the Andes.

 

We are currently looking for an early career Estimator to join our team at our Lakewood, Colorado office. We are looking for an individual with experience/interest in mining, tunneling and/or the geotechnical field to execute and manage estimates, preliminary design concepts and project proposals and support business development efforts to continue company growth. This position works under the guidance of the Preconstruction Manager and Senior Estimators along with other team members such as Project Development Managers, Project Managers and Project Engineers. Organization, flexibility, outstanding customer focus and strong communication are critical in this position.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Build strong relationships with contractors, suppliers, trade partners and clients, including government entities
  • Prepare bid proposals and estimates by accurately calculating complete takeoff of project scope
  • Maintain detailed tracking of jobs bid and awarded for historical data use and trend information
  • Participate in bid related presentations and submittal of qualification information
  • Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality and availability of materials and equipment to meet design intent
  • Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to submission of bid documents
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to drive the estimating and proposal process
  • Assist staff with determining production rates, crews and fleet for estimates
  • Support general Marketing and Business Development efforts
  • Follow company and department standards and procedures
  • Interface with the business development team
  • Manage and participate in the project handoff process
  • Develop/perform preliminary design concepts/calculations

 

Required Skills:

  • A minimum 1-5 years’ construction operations experience, including exposure to project operations, estimating, and prefered-experience in mining and/or geotechnical construction
  • Preferred F.E. or the ability to take F.E. in 2 years
  • Experience working within a team in a high growth industry
  • Detail oriented to organize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Familiarity with building/estimating techniques and software: B2W (Bid to Win), On-Screen Takeoff (OST), Bluebeam/PDF, Google Earth, CAD, MS Office Suite, Slide by RocScience, L-Pile plus
  • Strong knowledge of the RFP process
  • Proven positive and professional attitude
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Current driver’s license with good driving record
  • Background and Drug Screening

 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mining, Construction Management, Engineering, Geology or similar or equivalent in industry experience in Mining, Tunneling, and/or Geotechnical fields

 

Compensation:

  • $65,000 to $95,000 depending on experience
