ROLE SUMMARY:
The Computer Science Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality computing and computer science education from Upper Primary (Year 6) through Key Stage 4 (IGCSE), with the potential to contribute to A-Level Computer Science provision as the department develops. This will be the first year that we introduce Cambridge Internation Education IGCSE Computer Science.
The role combines excellent classroom practice with curriculum development, digital literacy leadership and the promotion of computational thinking across the school. The teacher will inspire students to become confident, responsible and creative users and creators of technology, equipping them with the knowledge and skills required for success in an increasingly digital world.
The postholder will contribute to the strategic development of computing within the school, including coding, digital safety, AI literacy and interdisciplinary STEAM initiatives, aligned with international curriculum expectations.
KEY RESPONSABILITIES:
- Plan and deliver engaging Computer Science and Computing lessons from Year 6 to Year 10 (with Y11 and possibly A Level teaching in the future) in line with the school curriculum and examination specifications (e.g., Cambridge International Education).
- Prepare students effectively for IGCSE Computer Science examinations, including coursework where applicable.
- Contribute to the development of A-Level Computer Science provision, schemes of work and resources as required in the future.
- Design and implement schemes of work, assessments and progression pathways across KS2–KS4.
- Differentiate learning to meet diverse student needs, including EAL and SEND learners.
- Integrate digital literacy, online safety and responsible technology use within teaching.
- Promote creativity and problem-solving through coding projects and applied computing tasks.
- Use assessment data to monitor progress and inform teaching and intervention.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.
- Maintain accurate records of attainment, progress and behaviour in school systems.
- Contribute to cross-curricular STEAM or digital learning initiatives where required.
- Support enrichment activities such as coding clubs, robotics, competitions or digital projects.
- Ensure safe and effective use of computer room and technology resources.
- Support students in developing digital portfolios and project work.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding progress and achievement.
- Participate in school events, open days and technology showcases.
- Contribute to departmental planning, moderation and curriculum review.
- Engage in professional development related to computing and pedagogy.
- Support whole-school digital innovation priorities.
- Uphold school policies, including safeguarding and acceptable use of technology
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computing, ICT or related field.
- Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE / BEd / equivalent – desirable)
- Experience teaching Computer Science or Computing in a school setting.
- Experience with international curricula desirable.
- Experience teaching IGCSE Computer Science desirable.
- Ability to teach A-Level Computer Science desirable.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development in computing or education.
- Safeguarding / child protection training (or willingness to complete).
