Role

The Business Unit Manager position is responsible and accountable for the value stream operating metrics.  The position provides the technical trouble shooting expertise to support the manufacturing process in meeting the department goals of, Safety RFT, OTD, uptime and cost. The Business Unit Manager develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards; recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls; coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised products; works with external departments to implement new products and processes that impact the value stream; works with the Business Unit Supervisors, Crew Supervisor  Lead person and Associates to achieve objectives; lead and facilitate Continuous Improvement Opportunities and Lean Six-Sigma initiatives.  The manufacturing engineer leads by example, models best practices, enforces policies and represents AMEC Core Values.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Monitor and review project activities and ensure its completion within scheduled time and budget
  • Monitor SPC data and ensure current processes are in control.
  • Manage start-up projects, implement new equipment and processes.
  • Performs process testing such as PPAP, APQP, FMEA.
  • Responsible for ensuring that any new processes released to manufacturing is a capable process before accepting from any entity.

 

Key Accountabilities

Safety/Operations:  Update and create procedures to improve manufacturing safety and efficiency.  Develop, implement, improve and maintain processes within assigned Value Stream.  Perform root cause and failure analysis as required. Troubleshoot machining problems.

Cost Reduction: Apply engineering principles, particularly process optimization to reduce fixed and variable costs through improving efficiencies and debottlenecking.  Define, test and implement new production improvements.  Drive cost reduction initiatives by completing capital project development/implementation as Leader of the Business Unit area both Manufacturing Engineer and Project Engineer.  Manage continuous improvements by using the Continuous Improvement Opportunity List (CIOL)

Quality: Track key production parameters to improve compliance to schedule.  Implement methods and practices to reduce variation.  Determine and evaluate root causes for customer returns and non-conforming product (NCR’s).  Ensure timely and effective resolution of assigned Corrective Action and Customer Complaint tasks.  Troubleshoot operations through structured problems solving, recommend solutions then lead the implementation to resolve the issues.  Develop and implement corrective actions.  Serve as primary technical support to operators.

Personnel: Daily interface with hourly associates, cell leaders, supervisors, maintenance, supply chain, plant management, and quality personnel to facilitate communication within the manufacturing facility.  Oversee the employee training system within the value stream and perform employee training as needed.
