Toddler Assistant Teacher Part-Time Tu./Thurs. 8:00am-2:30pm

Qualifications: 

  • Prefer Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education or a two-year Child Development Associates Degree
  • Prefer one year working experience with young children.
  • Must complete 24 hours of required yearly training outlined by the Texas Health & Human Services Department plus an additional Pre-Service Training if needed.
  • Maintain Texas Minimum Standards Subchapter H, Basic Care Requirements for Infants or Toddlers.
  • Obtain a CPR certification and first aid training every two years.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Abide by Positive Guidance and Discipline Methods according to Texas Minimum Standards
  • Establish objectives for each child by following curriculum guidelines and school goals, modifying plans based on student diagnostic and assessment procedures.
  • Maintain students learning results by providing verbal instructional feedback; positive coaching; counseling, and disciplining students; planning, monitoring, and appraising learning results.
  • Organize and participate in daily outside activities, such as games, and gross motor play, utilizing the outdoors for teaching opportunities.
  • Provide daily indoor activities for infants according to section 746.2417 “What activities must I provide for infants?” in the Minimum Standards for Child Care Centers. 746.2507 Section I for Toddlers
  • Maintain records by documenting learning accomplishments and behavior.
  • Help parents by regularly providing academic information; suggesting available educational and social resources; promptly addressing parents’ concerns; answering questions and requests.
  • Review professional publications staying abreast of current trends in early childhood education.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with the PCBC Day School COVID-19 Response Plan, procedures, and rules.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and show pleasure in working with and caring for young children.
  • Show respect to and relate positively towards children and adults.
  • Ensure classrooms have the supplies and resources ready at the start of each day.
  • Document the occurrence of significant accidents/incidents and notify the Day School Director immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.

Physical and Mental Requirements and Work Environment Conditions:

  • Recommend immunization against measles, pertussis (whooping cough), and tetanus.
  • Influenza vaccine is highly recommended at the onset of flu season
  • Must have organizational skills to keep an orderly and clean learning environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent understanding and ability to use computer technology for the purpose of online parent posting, lesson planning, writing, and completing training courses.
  • Standing and walking for sustained periods of time; moving about on foot for supervising and monitoring students in the classroom, as well as throughout the building and playground.
  • Stooping, crouching, crawling and kneeling---ability to assist young children with needs.
  • Climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting --- ability to pick up small children as needed as well as for classroom setup purposes, lifting between 20-40 pounds.
  • Environment is primarily indoors, in a classroom, and will also include an outdoor classroom environment with intermittent hot and cold weather.
  • Patience while working with young children with a wide variety of challenging behaviors and learning styles, diverse families, and co-workers.
