ABOUT THE TEAM 

Project SEARCH is a one-year school-to-work transition program designed for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are either in their last year of high school or are recent graduates.  Through this program, young adults develop the tools necessary for employment, and skills needed for self-determination, management, and self-advocacy.

The Project SEARCH (PS) Post-Hire Employment Consultant is responsible for participating in activities related to the support, coaching and sustainability of the former PS interns that were hired at a DC host business, with the ultimate outcome of 100% sustainable employment of all interns.  This position is responsible for supporting people at their respective job sites, providing job development, continued training, and assisting their caseload in achieving their individual goals.

IN THIS ROLE, YOU'LL: 

Post-Hire Support

  • Implement Customized Employment procedures in developing productive and meaningful work site opportunities.
  • Develop and implement general and individualized tools (job analyses, task analyses, checklists, etc.) while providing ongoing assessment of person’s strengths and weaknesses to determine appropriateness of job, tasks, and site for each individual.
  • Develop necessary natural supports and other workplace accommodations to ensure success for people on caseload. Communicate with employer and assist post-hire employee to resolve any grievances, or ongoing employer concerns.
  • Develop relationships with caseload and families, to better assess holistic skills, abilities and support needs, at work, home, and in the community (home visits, community activities, support meetings, etc.) Clearly communicate job status and person’s progress with family, while also helping to work through any specific concerns or issues.
  • Provide ongoing supports to caseload, assist with any special needs, and provide necessary supervision on and off job site (as defined by person’s individual plan). Provide ongoing training for post-hire employees on work duties.

Reporting and Record Keeping

  • Monitor and report peoples’ progress against agreed-upon goals, and document progress, as required (DC DDA/RSA reports, etc.). Update necessary supporting documentation, as required (monthly attendance sheet, quick profiles, behavior plans, etc.).
  • Document all contacts with persons’, families and employers. Make recommendations of necessary changes required to improve communications between all team members.
  • Develop and maintain updated resumes, positive personal profiles, and other records, as needed.
  • Utilize record keeping infrastructure and databases for record keeping as required.

Team and Other

  • Work closely with supervisor and team to ensure smooth operation of the team and Post-Hire program.
  • Manage one’s own time week by week. Develop weekly schedules which tie into peoples’ plans and goals.
  • Work with PS Business liaison and site supervisors at host business and problem solve day to day issues and concerns.
  • Facilitate job growth and development, utilizing continuing community resources and education at host business or other educational institutions, as needed.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

ABOUT YOU 

  • Requires a minimum of 2 years experience in supporting adults with developmental disabilities in supported employment or vocational settings, with at least high school diploma.
  • Bachelors degree strongly preferred
  • Must have a deep understanding of Customized and Supported Employment, a proven track record of supporting an entire range of people and be skilled at implementing peoples’ individual plans.
  • Must possess an excellent performance ethic, communication skills over a variety of mediums, and be a strong and collaborative team player. Requires valid driver’s license containing no more than two points.
