Bilingual Spanish-Speaking Docent

Seasonal | Spring–November 2026 | Start Dates: April, May, June

Position Summary

Shoreline Sightseeing is seeking a dynamic and engaging Bilingual (English/Spanish) Docent to deliver live narration aboard our Architecture River Tours. As a Docent, you are the voice of the experience. You will be transforming Chicago’s skyline into a compelling, educational, and memorable story for guests from around the world. In this bilingual role, you ensure an inclusive, high-quality experience for both English- and Spanish-speaking audiences.

This position combines public speaking, storytelling, education, and hospitality in one of Chicago’s most iconic outdoor settings. You’re turning steel and glass into living history. Every tour is live. Every audience is different. Every day is an opportunity to captivate hundreds of people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver 75-minute narrated tours in English and Spanish

  • Master architectural and historical content provided by Shoreline

  • Develop and maintain a professional tour script that blends accuracy, personality, and bilingual clarity

  • Present multiple tours daily with professionalism, clarity and enthusiasm

  • Engage guests and respond to questions in both languages before, during, and after tours

  • Collaborate with Marine Crew to ensure passenger safety

  • Promote Shoreline’s amenities, tours, and products

  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and memorable onboard atmosphere

Qualifications

  • Fluency in English and Spanish (required)

  • Exceptional public speaking, hospitality and storytelling skills in both languages

  • Professional demeanor and consistent attendance and work habits

  • Passion for Chicago and its architectural heritage

  • Evening and weekend availability

  • Comfortable working outdoors on a vessel in all weather conditions

  • Prior guide or docent experience preferred

  • Confident, adaptable, and quick-thinking under live conditions

  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team

  • Open to feedback, coaching, and ongoing professional development
