Qualifications



 


Education/Certification:    


High school diploma or GED in English


Texas Certified Basic Training for Security Guard Officers (Level II Required and Level III Preferred) Texas Certified Police Officer/DPS Certificate or Pre-Service Correctional Officer’s Certificate.


 


Special Knowledge/Skills:  


Must have License to Carry


Must pass Guardian program certification


Must pass background check


Must pass annual testing of Texas Cert. Basic Training for Security Guard Officers


Must comply with District Security Guard Dress Code


Must comply and pass random drug testing


Be at least five years older than the average high school seniors


Able to work with campus administrators, staff, and students, treating them


courteously and fairly


Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities


 


Experience:                   


To assist in a supervisor capacity in the provisions for the security and protection


of all students, staff, and property


 


Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate and acceptable

Technical Skills, Responsibilities, and Duties



 


In PSJA ISD, we hire individuals who demonstrate excellence in these technical areas as they lead others.  


 


Major Responsibilities and Duties


 



  • Serve as an alternate for security guardians when needed. Must have transportation to travel to assigned location at any given time.

  • Be responsible for assigned gun and attend rigorous gun safety training.

  • Patrols district buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.

  • Conducts patrol inspections of doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.

  • Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes, or detains them, or calls police for assistance, according to emergency action plan.

  • Sounds fire signal to alert fire department and school personnel in event of fire and assists in extinguishing fire.

  • Reports any unusual conditions or malfunctioning of heating, plumbing, or electrical systems.

  • Patrols school grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles; to check cars for parking authorization; to determine if vehicles are parked in restricted areas, such as near fire hydrants or in driveways; and to check exterior lighting and emergency access routes.

  • Confronts students creating problems and directs them to the office, if necessary.

  • Supervises and directs student parking and campus traffic when students are dropped off and picked up at school.

  • Supervises his/her designed area and keeps in close contact with other security guards.

  • Must attend all training and staff development provided by PSJA ISD Security and Safety Department.

  • Other assigned duties as assigned by Head Security, Director for School Security and Safety, Area Supervisors, Head Security Officer, and Campus Administration.
