Job Description

The Manager, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) is a hands-on leader passionate about developing, implementing, and sustaining programs that promote a strong safety culture across Growscape’s operations while ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations. This role engages daily with plant and distribution center leadership and employees to reduce risk, prevent injuries, and ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations.



The role is located at the facility in Middlefield, OH but has multi-site responsibility for all Growscape manufacturing plants, distribution centers and offices.



 



Key Responsibilities



Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration




  • Actively engage plant leadership to identify EHS risks, track performance metrics, and execute action plans that improve daytoday safety performance.

  • Partner with operations, HR, and leadership to report key EHS performance metrics, translate trends into actionable insights, and drive corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization

  • Coach and mentor leaders and employees in the behaviors that reinforce safe work practices and accountability.

  • Coordinate with corporate EHS, regulatory agencies, and external auditors as needed.



Safety & Health




  • Lead site EHS programs to ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Conduct risk assessments, job safety analyses, and incident investigations; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

  • Develop and deliver safety training programs ensuring effectiveness (e.g., machine safety, LOTO, hazardous materials, PPE).

  • Maintain OSHA logs, incident reports, and required safety documentation.

  • Champion a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, overseeing the behavior bases safety (BBS) observation process, and partnering with operations on continuous improvement activities.



Environmental Compliance




  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations related to plastics manufacturing, including waste management, air emissions, chemical handling, and spill prevention.

  • Manage environmental permits, reporting, and inspections.

  • Partner with operations to reduce environmental impact and support sustainability initiatives.



Incident Management & Workers’ Compensation




  • Oversees the incident response process, ensuring timely reporting, effective investigation, documentation, escalation, and corrective action for all safety, environmental, and near‑miss events in accordance with established EHS policies and regulatory requirements

  • Support workers compensation related incident investigations and root cause analyses to reduce repeat injuries and control claim costs.

  • Partner with HR and operations leadership on return‑to‑work, transitional duty, and accommodation programs.
