Northern Health are seeking applications from motivated and suitably experienced HMOs to join the Surgical Stream under the Division of Surgical Services for 2027. 

 

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne’s rapidly growing outer north.

 

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals and Kilmore District Hospital.  In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

 

About the Role:

The role of the Surgical Stream HMO is to deliver appropriate care to inpatients and public outpatients within their designated surgical unit. Additionally, they provide consultative support for patients from other units or departments, working closely with the Unit Registrar(s) and Consultants.

 

Responsibilities may include ward cover, attendance at clinics, assistance in theatre, and other duties within the scope of practice as defined by the unit. The year is divided into four 13-week rotations. Subject to availability and overall interest from the cohort, there may be opportunities to undertake more than one rotation within the same subspecialty.

 

Available rotations within the Surgical Stream include:

  • AGSU (Acute General Surgical Unit)
  • AGSU - Registrar Term
  • General Surgery
    • Colorectal,
    • Breast,
    • HPB,
    • UGI/Endo
  • Emergency
  • ENT
  • ICU
  • Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Paediatric Surgery
  • Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
  • Relieving/Surgery Cover
  • Urology
  • Vascular Surgery

 

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • At least two years of post-graduate experience in a tertiary hospital (Australia or recognised equivalent)
  • Hold or ability to apply for medical registration under AHPRA
  • Must be eligible for a working Visa with full work-rights if not an Australian citizen or permanent resident
