Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Shangri-La Marina Ship Dock Hand is often the first impression of the marina. As such, he/she is responsible for ensuring that all customer boats and/or personal watercraft are safely docked and secured at the fuel dock or courtesy slips and are properly, efficiently and quickly serviced as requested. Each dock hand is responsible for maintaining thorough knowledge of the operations of fuel dock equipment, pump-out facilities and cash register equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Efficiently handling all sales transactions at the Ship Store and Fuel Dock
  • Maintaining familiarity with inventory of apparel, beverages, snacks, specialty items, logoed items and boating accessories to maximize customer interest and answer inquiries
  • Maintaining a thorough working knowledge of fueling systems and pump-out facilities
  • Maintaining thorough knowledge necessary to for proper operation of cash register and related Jonas system operations to provide efficiency in sales transactions
  • Assuring that customer requests are either handled or immediately referred to the Ship Store Manager to assure maximum customer satisfaction
  • Maintaining knowledge of marina and area facilities and services in order to provide information requested by customers
  • Working with Marina Maintenance Staff, Ship Store Manager and Marina Manager to ensure that all customer boats are properly cleaned and provisioned as requested by customers
  • Assuring that the Ship Store, Fuel Dock and Courtesy docks are clean, safe, attractive and properly maintained
  • Assisting the Service Technicians when extra hands are required for specific work
  • Fully detailing boats as requested by the Service Department
  • Any and all other duties and responsibilities as may be required by the Marina Manager
  • Maintaining docks and buildings, including cleaning and performing necessary repairs
  • Providing concierge service for boating customers (including boat washing, detailing, pre-boating and post-boating preparation, and provisioning of vessels as requested by customers)
  • Assisting Dock Hands with fueling and pump-outs as required by increased traffic and/or as assigned by Customer Service Specialist or Marina Manager
  • Monitoring fuel levels as assigned by Customer Service Specialist
  • Maintaining marina landscaping, parking areas and common areas in a safe and aesthetically pleasing fashion
  • Maintaining all marina lighting in working condition
  • Maintaining all marina fire extinguishing systems in operating order and in compliance with regulations as assigned by the Customer Service Specialist
  • Maintaining all refuse collection on docks and on marina grounds on a regular basis
  • Maintaining a working record to enable identification of all slip renters and the location of their slip(s) and boat(s)
  • Providing for ordinary maintenance of docks and breakwater(s)
  • Working, as assigned, on installation and necessary maintenance of boat lifts and personal watercraft ports
  • Maintaining appropriate relationships with business tenants doing business on marina owned property
  • Reporting all outside entities performing work on marina property to Customer Service Specialist
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as may be required by the Customer Service Specialist or Marina Manager

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must be able to maintain a professional status through interface with customers.
  • Must be able to maintain a professional working relationship with management and co-workers.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules.
  • Must be willing to "pitch-in" and help co- workers with their job duties and be a team player.
  • Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of standing and/or walking.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand and walk for extended periods; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift more than 25lbs. Physical stamina and a proper mental attitude to work under pressure at a fast pace are essential. Must have the mental fortitude to handle the pressures of multiple tasks while providing excellent guest service.

Work Environment:

Work is generally performed outside, exposure to heat, cold, rain and snow. Early mornings, holiday and/or weekend work are required. Extended hours and irregular shifts are required.
