About the Department

Under immediate supervision, performs routine grounds maintenance work and operates motorizes equipment related to landscaping; does related work as required.

Position Duties

Under direct supervision, may operate a backhoe, loader, skid steer, tractor or any other landscape related equipment; operates a light truck in carrying tools, equipment, supplies and work crews to and from job sites; operates small ground maintenance equipment such as mowers, hand-held trimmers and blowers; waters landscape material as needed; helps set up traffic control measures; assists with planting trees and plants.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of the eleventh grade and considerable experience in landscape maintenance work and the operation of motorized equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  General knowledge of the methods and practices of grounds maintenance; grounds maintenance equipment, basic maintenance of such equipment and how to operate; ability to follow instructions and to satisfactorily complete assigned tasks in a timely manner; ability to work long hours under sometimes adverse weather conditions.

Other Qualifications

Possession of a valid NC commercial driver's license (CDL); routinely exposed to outdoor working conditions.
