    Reports to and is evaluated by the Athletic Director.
    Supervises: Assistant coaches

    General Description:

    The Head Cheerleading Coach (Cheer Varsity Head Coach) oversees all aspects of the district's cheerleading program, including practice planning, skill development, game-day performances, and event preparation.  The coach will foster a positive team culture, emphasizing sportsmanship, discipline, and academic achievement while ensuring student-athlete safety and adherence to school and athletic regulations. Responsibilities include organizing tryouts, coordinating team logistics, collaborating with school administration and parents, and promoting injury prevention and compliance with safety protocols.  This position requires strong leadership, practical communication skills, and a commitment to developing well-rounded student-athletes on and off the field.

    Responsibilities:

    • Plan, organize, and lead all varsity cheerleading practices, games, and competition performances.
    • Develop and implement conditioning and skill-building programs to enhance team performance and safety.
    • Teach and reinforce proper cheerleading techniques, including stunts, tumbling, jumps, and chants.
    • Ensure all athletes adhere to safety guidelines and best practices outlined by NFHS and other governing bodies.
    • Coordinate tryouts and select team members based on skill, attitude, and commitment.
    • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, parents, school administration, and athletic staff.
    • Supervise assistant coaches and guide athlete development.
    • Ensure compliance with school district policies and Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) rules and regulations.
    • Manage team logistics, including scheduling practices, coordinating transportation, and organizing fundraising events.
    • Monitor academic progress and behavior of student-athletes, promoting their overall success.
    • Serve as a positive role model and mentor to student-athletes.
    • Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the AD, Principal, Superintendent and/or the board may assign.

    Practice Requirements:

    • Practices are held after school hours, with additional responsibilities on evenings and weekends for games and competitions.
    • Travel is required for away games and cheerleading competitions.  Ability to demonstrate cheerleading skills, including basic motions, stunts, and tumbling.

    Head Cheer Coach Requirements

    • Must have a current CPR/AED/First Aid certification.
    • Successful completion of the CHSAA coaches test and mandatory concussion training.
    • Must have a Colorado criminal history background check.
    • Must complete Colorado Mandatory Reporting.
