JOB SUMMARY:

UR Now is a news digest and website for the University of Richmond that features a weekly email and online articles about university news, research, student experiences, and alumni and faculty achievements. It provides an online publication that highlights accomplishments, campus events, and stories from the university community, including student and faculty creative work, scholarships, and expert analysis. 

Editorial assistants on University Communications’ UR Now team assist with capturing and producing videos. They also research and write articles

 Students will research their topics, conduct interviews, and write their articles.They will adhere to assignment deadlines and will receive feedback from the professional staff. They will participate in team meetings, shadow communications team members, and perform other functions of working in a professional office. Student assistants will work primarily in person with occasional remote options. They’ll leave the internship with published pieces for their portfolio.

Students working for the media relations team may not work for any news organization, including on-campus, as this would be a conflict of interest.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Pitch story ideas based on UR Now parameters.

  • Conduct interviews and write content as assigned.

  • Record and edit video clips to be included with UR Now articles.

  • Be available to proofread and fact-check stories.

  • Complete assignments by assigned deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to shoot and edit videos and photos.

Ability to write concise, appealing copy and proofread stories.

Knowledge of MS Office programs.

Knowledge of AP style.

Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud programs, including Photoshop and InDesign preferred.

Confident, accurate, and courteous telephone and interview skills.

Punctual and deadline-oriented.

Dress with respect for yourself and the job.

Pay Grade: SP Student 4, starting at $14.25
