POSITION SUMMARY:        

Assists dentist during examination and treatment of patients.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares patient and patient room for procedures.
  • Sterilizes and disinfects instruments, sets up instrument trays.
  • Prepares materials, and assists dentist during dental procedures.
  • Takes and records medical and dental histories of patients.
  • Facilitates related services for health center clients as appropriate with respect to their confidentiality and privacy.
  • Develops and mounts dental diagnostic x-rays.
  • Pours, trims and polishes study casts.
  • Assists dentist in management of dental emergencies.
  • Instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs.
  • Schedules appointments, generates and closes encounters, prepares bills and receives payment for dental services, completes insurance forms, and maintains clerical records.
  • Orders supplies and maintains updated inventory
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 

Certificate/License required:

  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Certificate of completion of course of study in Dental Assisting.
  • Three months or more of related experience and/or training.
