Job Description

Purpose within the Organization:

The Climbing Wall Attendant serves a vital role in day-to-day operations of the entire Climbing Wall program. Climbing Wall Attendants supervise the daily activities at the climbing wall and provide a safe and friendly climbing environment for patrons to enjoy the benefits of indoor rock climbing.

Responsibilities Related to Purpose:

  • Enforces all climbing wall policies and procedures.
  • Visually inspects the equipment and facility during opening and closing of wall and report any problems immediately to the Climbing Wall Coordinator.
  • Completes regularly scheduled rope and equipment checks.
  • Provides supervision of climbing wall participants to include belaying and spotting climbers.
  • Attends all Climbing Wall staff meetings and trainings.
  • Handles all injuries, accidents, and emergency situations in accordance with Campus Recreation policy.
  • Provides climbing instruction (upon documented completion of proper training) for the following classes: Intro to Top Roping, Climbing Movement Clinic, and Lead Climbing/Belaying.
  • Provides assistance to climbers by determining the eligibility of individuals to use the climbing wall, teaching/demonstrating proper use of climbing equipment, equipment inventory, and accurately completes all forms and checklists.
  • Maintains an organized and neat work area.
  • Checks the daily staff notes for duties and tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of basic customer service techniques.
  • Knowledge of indoor rock climbing including climbing technique, belaying technique, routes and rating systems, and rock climbing safety equipment.
  • Skill in effective written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work at heights of up to 30 feet.

Experience/Education:

Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:

  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program.
  • Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.

You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.

Pay Rate: Minimum Wage
Anticipated End Date: June 30, 2027
