Middle School Career Exploration Educator: Architect of the Future

Location: Cross Keys Middle School (7-8)

Year: 2026-2027 School Year

The Opportunity: Mapping the Path to Success

In Ferguson-Florissant, we believe that the best way to predict the future is to create it. We are looking for a dynamic, high-energy Career Exploration Teacher to serve as a guide for our 7th and 8th graders as they begin their professional journey. You aren't just teaching a curriculum; you are helping students discover their passions, identify their "why," and connect their classroom learning to the $100$ trillion global economy.

As part of the FFSD "New Chapter," you will lead a classroom that feels like a laboratory for life. If you are a visionary who loves helping students see the endless possibilities for their lives, your next chapter starts here.

Role Summary

As a Middle School Career Exploration Teacher (Business certified), you will inspire and support students in reaching their academic and professional goals. You will deliver high-quality, project-based instruction that introduces students to the $16$ National Career Clusters. Working in a supportive, student-centered environment, you will empower every scholar to develop a Personalized Learning Plan, master essential "soft skills," and understand the financial and academic requirements of their dream careers.

Why You’ll Succeed (Qualifications)

  • Certified Professional: Valid Missouri Teaching Certification in Business Education (5-9 or 9-12).

  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor of Arts or Science Degree, required; Master’s degree, preferred.

  • The "Dream Catalyst": You are a natural connector who can help a student see how their love for gaming, art, or helping others translates into a high-demand career.

  • Equity Champion: You are committed to ensuring that every student—regardless of background—has equal access to information about high-wage, high-growth career pathways.

  • Relational Expert: You thrive in the middle school environment and can turn "What do you want to be when you grow up?" into a meaningful, data-driven conversation.

Your Impact (Key Duties)

  • Lead the Discovery: Design and lead engaging "Career Deep Dives" where students explore industries through virtual tours, guest speakers, and hands-on simulations.

  • Build Professionalism: Teach the "Success Skills" that never go out of style: time management, collaborative teamwork, professional communication, and digital etiquette.

  • Financial Literacy: Integrate foundational business concepts like budgeting and "return on investment" (ROI) as they relate to different educational and career paths.

  • Collaborate for Success: Partner with School Counselors and CTE Coordinators to ensure students are prepared for the transition to high school "Pathways" and specialized academies.

  • Foster Agency: Help students build their first professional portfolios, including introductory resumes, "elevator pitches," and goal-setting frameworks.

Your Leadership Partners

  • Primary Support: Building Principal

  • Instructional Support: District CTE Coordinator and Secondary Instructional Coaches

The Logistics of Your Success

  • Classification: Exempt, Certified Staff

  • Work Year: 10-Month Academic Calendar (187 Contract Days)

  • Salary: Based on the Teacher Salary Schedule, determined by experience and education level.

  • Benefits: Full-time Eligibility (Medical, Dental, Vision, & PSRS/PEERS Retirement).

The FFSD Advantage: Total Rewards & Support

We don't just hire teachers; we invest in business leaders.

  • Innovation in Action: Access to modern computer labs and digital tools that simulate real-world business environments.

  • Professional Growth: Tuition reimbursement and district-provided PD focused on the latest in business education and CTE standards.

  • Health & Heart: 100% district-paid medical, dental, and vision plans, plus access to our Ferg-Flor Care district health clinic.

  • Mentorship for Success: Every new middle school teacher is paired with a veteran mentor to help you navigate the transition into the FFSD family.
