East Side House (ESH), founded in 1891, has served the South Bronx since 1963. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, ESH is committed to enriching lives and strengthening communities. Recognizing that education is the pathway to economic and personal empowerment, ESH offers youth education and technology programs that help participants develop the skills necessary to achieve self-sufficiency and long-term success.
Beyond education, ESH supports families and seniors through wraparound services, including food distribution, wellness programs, and community outreach.
Program Summary
The Mitchel Community Center COMPASS Program, funded by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), provides afterschool and seasonal programming that supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of youth. Our school year and summer youth programs are designed to be dynamic, engaging, and safe, offering activities such as homework help, STEM, martial arts, sports, dance, music, and leadership development.
We are seeking serious, passionate Youth Educators who have completed some college coursework, demonstrate a genuine commitment to youth development, and are eager to think creatively and engage meaningfully with our young participants.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design and lead age-appropriate, engaging enrichment activities and lesson plans aligned with DYCD and ESH program goals.
- Create inclusive, welcoming environments where students feel safe, supported, and inspired to participate.
- Collaborate with team members and support specialists during activities and program planning.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with youth, families, and team members by modeling professional and positive behavior.
- Supervise youth with a focus on safety, participation, and skill development.
- Maintain clean, organized spaces and ensure all materials and equipment are used properly and stored correctly.
- Maintain accurate documentation: attendance, incident reports, behavior logs, and participant records.
- Assist with enrollment and provide administrative support as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and ongoing professional development, including those required by DYCD.
- Support special events, family engagement activities, and external trips.
- Supporting the beautification of the center, including bulletin boards
- Collaborating with other staff on end-of-year projects and activities
- Organizing and maintaining the supply and storage closets of materials throughout the year
- Participating in the agency’s community events and collaborating with Activity Specialists to plan and develop themed days and activities for these events
- Always promote and represent the mission and vision of East Side House and DYCD.
